Joseph V. Grundmayer

1929 – 2011

Joseph Vincent Grundmayer, son of Joseph H. and Elizabeth M. (Kuhlman) Grundmayer, was born March 20, 1929 on the family farm near Raeville, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville, attended St. John Berchman School, and graduated from the 8th grade. Following school Joe began farming with his father and continued to farm until retirement in1993. He moved from the farm into Raeville in 1991and lived there until entering the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE in 2005.

Joe was a member of the National Farmers Organization, Knights of Columbus, Petersburg Rural Fire Board, and the Board of Directors of the Boone & Antelope Mutual Insurance Company; serving as president for a period of time. He also served as an election judge in Boone County.

Joe was also very involved in his church. He was a life-long member of the St. Bonaventure Parish and a member of the St. Bonaventure Holy Name Society.  After moving off the farm, he took on the role of looking after the church, along with giving tours of the church when called upon. Along with attending any and all happenings at the church, he enjoyed bowling, taking pictures and traveling to visit family.

Grundmayer, 82, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

Joe is survived by four brothers: Jerome and wife Elvira of Eagan, MN; Edmund and wife Cathy Ann of Gaithersburg, MD; Alvin and wife Kathy of Ceresco, NE; Gerald and wife Barb of Hastings, NE; 10 nephews and nieces, 12 great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Ferdinand; two brothers in infancy; one sister: Adele Barnett and her husband Richard.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating.

Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of arrangements.
