Proceedings — Elgin City Council

ELGIN CITY COUNCIL

Special Meeting

August 25, 2011

A special meeting was held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at the Elgin City Hall.  Notice of said meeting had been posted at three places, namely, Elgin City Hall, Dean’s Market and the U.S. Post Office, as prescribed by law.

Mayor Schmitt called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and announced the location of the Open Meeting Act. Council members present were Shirley Nissen, Don Mackel and Jim Kittelson.  Councilman Kenny Jochum was absent.

Also present was Vicki S. Miller, Bethany Miller and Jessica Reestman.

The purpose of said meeting was to review an application for a special designated permit for Jessica Reestman dba Boomerangs for a tailgate party to be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 100 Pine Street.  The alternate location would be Beckman Lumber.

Bethany and Jessica explained that the Elgin Ko-ed Group (EKG) would be having a tailgate party on the lot west of City Hall.  There will be games, a big screen to watch Nebraska play Wyoming and a beer garden.  All proceeds will go the Q125.

Discussion was held on using wristbands instead of having a segregated area for the beer garden.

Also discussed was using the public bathrooms and picnic tables from the park if needed.   Councilman Mackel stated that the Chamber had rented port-a-potties from Petersburg for the steak fry and they cost $97.00.

Following the discussion, a motion was made by Mackel to approve the application for a special designated permit to Jessica Reestman.  A second to the motion was made by Kittelson.

Roll call vote: Aye; Nissen, Kittelson and Mackel.  Nays: none.  Absent: Jochum.  There being three ayes, no nays and one absent, Mayor Schmitt declared the motion passed.

There being no further business to come before the Elgin City Council, Mayor Schmitt declared the meeting adjourned.  Meeting ended at 8:00 p.m.
