Funeral Services for Ludwig Tagel age 89 of Grand Island, Ne  were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at St. John’s Catholic Church in rural Clearwater.  Father Jacob Bauer and Richard Piontkowski, Officiating.   Music was provided by Tom Kimes, Organist and St. John’s Choir.

Visitation was 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2011 with a 7:30 Wake Service with Father James Kramper, officiating at Snider Memorial Funeral Home, Clearwater.  Music was provided by Gloria Christiansen and Brenda Riley.

Pallbearers were Mike Tagel, Brian Tagel, Chris Tagel, Brent Tagel, Travis Tagel, Jonathan Schueth, Allen Schueth, Tom Schueth, and Scott Opp.

Burial was St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery rural Ewing, Ne.  Ludwig passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, Ne.

Ludwig Tagel was born on September 21, 1921 to John and Mary (Bauwens) Tagel  at Deloit , Ne.  He was baptized at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church.  Ludwig grew up in the Deloit area, southwest of Ewing.  He attended school at District #146.  After schooling he helped his dad on the farm.  On November 22, 1943 he was united into marriage to Loretta Thramer at St. John’s Catholic Church.  Ludwig farmed until 1982, then they moved to Grand Island where he  sold machinery and scales until 2000.  Loretta passed away July 2, 2000 in Grand Island, Ne.  They were married for 56 years  He was a member of St. John’s Men’s Choir, St. John’s Mens Club, Board member of Ewing Creamery, A.M.P.I. of Plainview Nebraska Dairy Council, and School District 146.  Ludwig enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.

He is survived by Son, Joe Tagel of Springfield, Ne.  Daughter, Elizabeth and husband Doug Schueth of Ewing, Nebraska.  Daughter-in-law, Pam Tagel of Grand Island, Ne and Son-in-law, E.J. Opp of Wood River, Ne.  14 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren.  Brother-in-law Earl Schindler of Neligh, NE.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loretta in 2000;  Son, John (Jack); and Daughter, Marilyn (Jean) Opp.  Sister, Berniece Schindler and granddaughter, Tracy Tagel.
