Exchange Students Enjoying Elgin Life

By Lynell Morgan

Different cultures, languages and landscapes aren’t going to be barriers to the experiences of two new faces in Elgin.

Joengmin (pronounced tonge-min) Hwang from Daejeon, Korea and Katrine Tolpinrud of Oslo, Norway are busy adapting to life in rural Nebraska and the school system at Elgin Public High School. Helping with their transitions are host parents, Kurt and Peggy Hanlin.

Next time you see the girls around the school or town, give them your best smile and a wave of the hand. To Joengmin say “hwan young hab ni da”; to Katrine say “velkommen” and welcome them both to Elgin.
