Mildred J. Borer, 95 of Albion, NE, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.

Mildred Josephine Borer, the daughter of Jens Edward and Emma Haave Paulson was born on April 21, 1916 on a Boone County farm 10 miles north of Albion. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church (South Branch). She attended Boone County school District #62, and graduated from Albion High School in 1933 with Normal Training.

On October 12, 1943, Mildred was united in marriage to Dennis H. Borer at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion. They lived on a farm in rural Boone County near Albion. Mildred taught school in rural Boone County Schools, St. Bonaventure Catholic School at Raeville, and St. Michael’s Catholic School in Albion. In 1968 she moved into Albion. Mildred continued her education at Wayne State College, receiving her degree in 1973.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Petersburg, and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion along with St. Michael’s Altar Society. Along with entertaining people as a member of the Elkhorn Valley Fiddlers, she enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, writing poetry, and writing the family newsletter.

Surviving Mildred are her children: Dianne Salber of Elgin; Donna Bennett of Grand Island; Dennis Borer (Mary Lou) of Albion; 4 grandchildren: Rolley Bennett (Julie), Darren Bennett (Lynn), Dawn Borer Stevenson (Cody), Shannon Borer and 3 great-grandchildren: Nick, Mary and Cara Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dennis in 1976, son-in-law Willie Salber and one sister Eileen Jacobson.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion with Fr. Stan Schmit and Fr. John Hagemann officiating. Lector was Rolley Bennett. Servers were Jacob Nore and Ethan Young. Organist was Jill Nore. Casket bearers were Nick Bennett, Rolley Bennett, Darren Bennett, A. J. Jacobson, Harlan Jacobson and Jerry Hageman.

Interment followed at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Albion. Levander Funeral Home of Albion is in charge of arrangements.
