Leroy Bernard Fritz

1958 – 2011

Leroy Bernard Fritz, the son of Emil and Mildred (Kallhoff) Fritz, Jr., was born on December 23, 1958, in Neligh, Nebraska.

Leroy worked for American Electric in Omaha for many years. In 2003, he began working full-time as a cabinet and furniture maker, despite a long battle of cancer, he worked as much as he could.

On June 21, 1980, he married June E. Brennan in Omaha; they later divorced. In July 2003, he and the love of his life and best friend, Celeste Morris, committed to a life together.

Leroy was a member of the Shelby United Methodist Church in Shelby, Iowa.

He was an animal lover (he especially liked eagles) who enjoyed riding his Goldwing motorcycle, listening to country music and playing chess. He also like following the Nebraska Huskers and the Atlanta Braves.

Leroy died on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at his home in Shelby, Iowa, having reached the age of 52 years, four months and 18 days.

He was preceded in death by his father and two infant brothers. He is survived by his love, Celeste Morris of Shelby, Iowa, one daughter Kelsey Fritz of Omaha, one son Brandon and wife Kathryn Ftiz of Seattle, Washington; his mother Mildred Fritz of Omaha; two sisters, Bette (Tim) Matza of Omaha, and Nancy Doyle (friend, Vern Pomerleau) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one brother, Larry Fritz of Omaha; one grandchild and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held May 14, 2011, at the Shelby United Methodist Church in Shelby, Iowa.

Memorials may go to the Jennie Edmondson Memorial Hospital Wings of Hope and the Myrtue Medical Center Hospice.
