Irish Eyes ‘Smiling’ at St. Pat’s Wild Game Feed

It’s become an annual tradition, a sign that Spring is here.

Elgin area residents turned out in large numbers Thursday evening to attend the Seventh Annual Wild Game Feed held at Boomerang’s in Elgin.

Having been postponed by bad weather earlier in the month, St. Patrick’s Day proved to be a day of celebration.

Present were business owners and teachers, retirees and wannabes, all came with one mission in mind —to to sample something ‘wild’ they seldom get to taste any other time of the year.

As one walked through the establishment, shortly after 7 p.m., fans of wild game could be seen dining on such deliquacies as grilled venison loin, barbequed deer brats, elk meat balls, antelope sticks, pheasant pot pie, chivo, mallard duck, wild turkey and Canadian goose.

For those who preferred their ‘wild game’ to have an aquatic flavor, there was salmon/halibut, Alaskan salmon chowder, Alaskan Ling Cod and catfish.

For more exotic tastes, there was well done rattle snake.

Also, for persons wishing to enjoy more traditional St. Patrick’s Day fare, there was corned beef and cabbage.
