ELGIN – Postponed two days because of a snowstorm, the Pope John Wrestling Invitation was held Monday afternoon. Plainview won the team title with 204 points.  Pope John placed 3rd at 122, Elgin High School finished 11th with 60 points.

 

Basketball

CHAMBERS — Chambers 45, Pope John 43

Monday night marked the battle of two undefeated teams, each seeking a victory to wrap up the Pre-Christmas portion of their schedule. The event was the finals of the Pre-Holiday Tournament, pitting undefeated Pope John Central Catholic against the undefeated Lady Coyotes.  Pope John (5-1) will seek to rebound from the loss on Friday when they host a Holiday Tournament.

 

CHAMBERS — Chambers 55, Pope John 45

Playing in the finals of the Pre-Holiday Tournament, Pope John Central Catholic fell to host Chambers by the score of 55 to 45. Pope John will next be in action Friday when they host a holiday tournament.

 

 Elgin Public Sports resume action this Friday in the Cedar Rapids Tournament.

 

Rodeo

Leaders of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA), the oldest youth rodeo organization in America, appointed Monte Snider and Tanner Olson, both of Bartlett NE to the Wrangler High School All Star Rodeo Team.

This is the first ever corporate-sponsored youth rodeo team. Monte and Tanner earned a position on the Wrangler High School All Star Rodeo Team based on leadership qualities, academic eligibility and athletic achievements.

Monte is the son of Alan and Kathy Snider. His grandparents are Lynn and Patricia Wilkinson of Neligh and Don and Barbra Snider of Elgin.   Tanner is the son of John and Chris Olson.  He is the grandson of Bonnie Olson of Bartlett and Charles and Margy Bartak of Neligh.
