County to Provide Law Enforcement Services in Elgin in 2011

In 2011, law enforcement in Elgin will change.

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Antelope County Board of Supervisors, a motion was passed to allow the Antelope County Sheriff Department to contract with the City of Elgin for law enforcement services. Supervisors voted 7-0 to approve the plan which will go into effect on February 1 and run through September 30.

City Clerk Vicki Miller was at the supervisors’ meeting to present the contract.

The change is being made as a result of November’s general election whereby Elgin Police Chief Bob Moore was elected county sheriff. Moore, who will be sworn in as sheriff in January, told the Elgin City Council earlier this month that he would provide coverage in Elgin through the end of January.
