Memorial Day Services to be Monday

Memorial Day services will be held at sites around Elgin on Monday morning, March 31.
A 9:30 a.m. worship service will be held at Park Congregational UCC Church west of town. At 10 a.m., the veteran’s service will be held at the Park Cemetery.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the veteran’s service will be held at West Cedar Valley and St. Boniface Cemeteries. Guest speaker for the program will be Father Dan Andrews of St. Boniface and St. Bonaventure Catholic Churches.
Presentations will be made by various veteran’s organizations at that time. Music will be provided by members of the Elgin Public School Band. Members - report to the school at 9 a.m.
Elgin Veteran’s Club, V.F.W. Sharkey-Reuss Post #6816 and American Legion Post #229 will furnish the firing squad for these services.
Both organizations are asked to report to the Veteran’s Club (near City Hall) at 9: 15 a.m. (in Class A uniform if it fits or in civilian dress). Veterans will depart for Park Center at 9:30 a.m.
The American Legion Auxiliary, Elgin Unit 229 will be putting poppies on the graves of deceased members on Friday, May 28 at 6 p.m. Anyone willing to help should meet at the new American Legion meeting room (front of City Hall) at 6 p.m. All help will be appreciated. If there are not enough people to help the poppies will not be put out. If you are willing to help please contact Melvina Mack at 843-5597 or Rita Wagner at 843-2341, or be at the meeting room at 6 p.m. It will take around 15 people to finish in less than an hour.
The American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary will be hosting a lunch at the KC Hall on Memorial Day following the Memorial Day services. Everyone is invited and there is no charge. Anyone wishing to bring a salad, cookies, or sandwiches should call Eve Kallhoff at 843-5435 or Betty Moser at 843-5483.
