Edward H. Starman

1930 – 2010

Edward Henry Starman, son of John and Mary (Beckman) Starman was born April 26, 1930 on a farm northeast of Elgin, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin and attended St. Boniface School.

On Sept-ember 6, 1955, Ed was married to Eleanor Heil at St. Boniface Catholic Church. 

He farmed and the couple made their home on the family farm northwest of Elgin for 35 years. 

In 1990, they moved to a house in town.

Ed was in the US Army during the Korean War; serving on the Korean Military Advisors Group. 

He was a member of the Elgin VFW Post # 5816, Knights of Columbus, and St. Boniface Catholic Church. He sang in the choir and served on the parish council. He enjoyed playing his accordion and played many dances with the Tune Tappers.

Starman, 79, died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor of Elgin; 2 sons: Philip Starman and wife Kris of Elgin; John Starman and wife Kelly of Petersburg; 1 daughter Ruth Starman of the Benedictine Convent in Clyde, MO; 8 grandchildren: Laura, Kelly, Andy, Jeff, Sarah, Greg, Peter, Matthew; 1 brother Herman Starman of Elgin; 2 sisters: Helen Venteicher of Pierce; Catherine Hemenway and husband George of Clearwater.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister-in-law: Joan Starman; 1 brother-in-law: Anton Venteicher.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 18, 2010, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, with Rev. Dan Andrews officiating. 

Burial was at St. Boniface Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 229 and VFW Post 5816 of Elgin. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
