Elgin residents will have an opportunity to play a role in helping the City of Elgin secure grant funds for needed projects.
Several months ago the Elgin City Council approved a plan to survey the community. The Northeast Nebraska Economic Development District (NENEDD) out of Norfolk has assisted city officials in developing the survey and will tally the results.
According to City Clerk Vicki Miller, in order to apply for any grants, it is necessary to have 100 percent of the surveys that are sent out returned. Only 198 residents within the City limits of the City of Elgin will receive a survey.
Upon completion of the survey, the City may be able to receive grant funds of up to $350,000 for each eligible project.
Residents receiving a survey should complete it and send it back in the enclosed envelope to NENEDD. Each survey will be numbered, Miller said, however it is for the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s use only. The number will be removed by NENEDD staff and no one in the City of Elgin will see this number, nor will they be able to identify who is completing each form. Income survey information will be kept completely confidential.
Residents receiving surveys are asked to complete and mail them back to NENEDD in the enclosed envelopes no later than December 3, 2009.
