The song which moved some to tears Wednesday morning at the Veterans Day observance in Elgin came about by accident.
“Bringing Him Home” was written by Elgin High School alumni Amanda Miller who encountered a caravan of Patriot Guard riders escorting the remains of Spec. Donald Grella, a Vietnam veteran on the last leg of his journey home to Laurel. Funeral services were held October 3, 2009.
Contacted last week, Miller said the song was part of a project where she was writing one song a day for 30 days in a row.
