Governor Ricketts To Attend Wheeler County Fair

Preparations are nearly complete for the 91st annual Wheeler County Fair and Rodeo To be held at the fairgrounds in Bartlett, this year’s event will feature many exciting events.
New this year will be the presentation of the Herb & Sherry Mignery ‘Good Hand’ Award. Herb has decided to donate one of his famous bronze statues on an annual basis to be presented to a Wheeler County resident who deserves the title of “Good Hand.”
The award is to be given to an individual who in some way or another has greatly contributed to the betterment of Wheeler County and the communities within. The Mignerys will be present to present the inaugural award. Scheduled to attend are Governor Pete Ricketts and District #41 State Senator Kate Sullivan.
The Wheeler County Agricultural Society are selling tickets for a gun raffle, the drawing to be held Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Nebraska Wild Horse Race Finals. First prize will be choice of either a 12 gauge Remington Express or Savage Axis. Second prize will be the gun not chosen. Proceeds will go towards improvements for the fairgrounds.
The fair kicks off Thursday with a 9 a.m. horse show.

Thursday, August 4
10:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. — Exhibitors (including 4-H) time to enter open class exhibits
2:15 p.m. — Open class judging
2-5 p.m. — Entry day for 4-H interview judging of exhibit hall projects
6 p.m. — Wheeler County Resident/Landowner Community Roping
Friday, August 5
9-9:45 a.m. — Small animal check-in
10 a.m. — Small Animal Show
1-3 p.m. — Weigh-in Sheep and Swine
3-4 p.m. — Weigh-in Beef
8 p.m. — Rodeo, Wild Horse Races during rodeo, slack after rodeo
9 p.m. — Dance, DJ by Fat Kid Productions
Saturday, August 6
8 a.m. — Livestock show
2 p.m. — Car show
4-5 p.m. — Herb Mignery presentation at Wheeler County Courthouse
4-8 p.m. — Prime rib feed
4:30 p.m. — 4-H Scholarship, Friend of 4-H and contest winners recognized
5 p.m. — 4-H Premium Livestock Auction
7:15 p.m. — Wheeler County Foundation Scholarship and Grant Awards, Mignery Good Hand Award, Pioneer Awards
8 p.m. — Rodeo, wild horse races during rodeo
9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Dance to Sheila Greenland Band
Sunday, August 7
Community Day — No gate charge
10 a.m. — Livestock and all 4-H exhibit hall entries released
1:30 p.m. — Sign in for turtle races
2 p.m. — Sand volleyball tournament in park
2 p.m. Cornhole tournament/Turtle races
5 p.m. — Community potluck dinner
6:30 p.m. — Ranch rodeo
