John Wesley Hanlin was born on August 1, 1931 to Wilber and Mae (Goeury) Hanlin at Geneva, NE. He graduated from Geneva High School with the Class of 1949. John enlisted in the United States Army on February 12, 1953 at Omaha, NE and was discharged on February 2, 1955 at Fort Carson, CO. He received the Korean Service Medal.
On May 8, 1955, he was united in marriage to Carol Ortgies at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruning, NE. They have celebrated 62 years together. Through the years he worked at Heath’s Market, Safeway, Thiftway, Jack and Jill and the City of Neligh. He was a member of Neligh EMT/Firemen, Jaycee’s, American Legion and VFW and the Neligh Chamber of Commerce.
John enjoyed woodworking and listening to Ham Radio.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Neligh, Kurt and wife, Peg Hanlin of Elgin, NE, Deb and husband, Lee Pofahl of Neligh, NE, and Kent and wife, Suzanne Hanlin of Pierce. 11 Grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Sister, Ruth (Art) Roemmich of York, NE.
Preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Bradley Hanlin; brothers: a brother in-infancy, William Hanlin and his wife, Kate; and James Hanlin. Sisters: one in-infancy and Margaret and her husband, John Fahlberg.
