Doris Slajchert

Doris Kinney Slajchert
1924 — 2016
Doris Kinney Slajchert, daughter of Ernest Charles and Alta V. Jenkins Kinney was born August 25, 1924, on the family farm west of Elgin.
She grew to womanhood in the Park Center community west of Elgin where she was a member of the Park Congregational Church and attended Park Center School through the tenth grade.
After graduating with the Class of 1941 from the Elgin High School, she taught for two years at Park Center School before entering Wayne State College.  She transferred to the University of Nebraska in the fall of 1944 where she became a member of Rho Chapter, Alpha Xi Delta social sorority.  Doris graduated from the University in 1947 with a degree in elementary education.  She taught in the Lincoln Public Schools for several years.
On July 5, 1950, at the Park Congregational Church, Do-ris was married to George Slajchert.
As newlyweds, they moved to Berkeley, CA, where Doris taught in the Berkeley Public Schools.  They lived in San Mateo, CA, for 57 years until retiring to Westlake Village, CA, in 2014.
Doris died on May 26, 2016, in Los Angeles.  She is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, George; her two children:  Peg (Bill) Jensen of San Mateo, CA, and Davis (Laura) Slajchert of Westlake Village, CA; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Burt and Laverne Kinney, and her sister, Lorraine Huffman.
Burial will be in the Park Cemetery west of Elgin at a future date.
