EHS, PJCC Speech Teams At Newman Grove Speech Invite

Yesterday, Wednesday, February 24th was the Newman Grove Speech Meet. Both speech teams from Elgin competed during the course of the day.

Elgin Public High School:

The EPS Speech Team returned with some hardware,  including the runner-up plaque.  The team finished with  31 points, just behind the meet champion Boone Central who had 55 points.
Alois Warner and Kenny Bush brought home gold medals, earning first place in duet acting.
The team’s OID’s captured the top two places at the meet. The OID of Warner, Bush, Zoey Bergman, Taya Voborny and Jaime Hoefer placed first.
The OID of Dylan Widger, Leslie Linares, Morgan Carpenter, Lydia Behnk and Kira Widger earned second place medals.
Three individuals brought home third place medals:  Linares-Entertainment Speaking, D. Widger-Poetry and Hoefer-Serious Prose.
The duet of Voborny and Bergman placed fifth.
Superior Ratings were earned by the following individuals:  Ingvild Bekkeseth-Entertainment Speaking, Katie Polk-Serious Prose and Persuasive Speaking, Shelby Dohmen-Humorous Prose and K. Widger-Poetry, Behnk-Humorous Prose.
EPS Coaches Jessie Reestman and Stacy Shumake-Henn commended the team on their performances.
“We’ve had some events do very well this season, but it’s nice when we can compete as a team as well. It’s exciting for everyone that way. It takes the whole team to accomplish this.”

Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School

The following are the results for PJCC from the Newman Grove meet.  Pope John placed 5th overall!  “Our best performance ever at the Newman Grove Meet,” said Coach Peggy Payne.

6th Place Medal – Brianna Hupp – Poetry
