What first began as an interest and then escalated into a hobby has now become a business for Elgin’s Mark Schmitt.
Blacksnake Taxidermy is a seasonal business which offers a way for Schmitt to enjoy satisfaction for a job well done in an activity which he can do in his garage at home.
Taxidermy is a term used to describe the methods of reproducing a life-like three-dimensional representation of an animal for permanent display. Visit any deer hunter’s home and you’ll like see a wall adorned with the heads of deer. Some, you might be surprised to know, have been created by Schmitt.
On Sunday night, Schmitt, 59, shared how his hobby has grown into a business. He said it all started just a few years ago.
