Kenneth J Schumacher, 75 formerly of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, with Rev. Stan Schmit officiating.
Interment followed at the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 334 of Petersburg. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin is in charge of arrangements.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.huffmanlevander.com.

Kenneth Joseph Schumacher, oldest of seven children to Raymond Joseph and Alvera Mary (Seier) Schumacher, was born May 16, 1940 on the family farm near Raeville. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville, NE, attended elementary school at St. John Berchman School in Raeville and graduated from St. John’s High School at Petersburg in 1959.
He entered the United States Army in 1960 and served two years before receiving an honorable discharge. He returned home and began farming.
On October 1, 1962, Ken married Patricia Ann Ketteler at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. To this union four children were born: Lynette, Lisa, Keith and Kevin. They made their home on the family farm their entire married life, while Ken continued to farm.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name and the Pope John School Board. He believed strongly in Catholic Education, was very dedicated to school and church activities and fund raising for them. In earlier years, Ken played a lot of slow pitch softball and participated in a number of bowling leagues. He was a hard worker and was committed to taking time out to spend with his family, going skiing and taking trips. He enjoyed fishing and loved taking his grandchildren with him.
Ken is survived by his four children: Lynette Schumacher of Omaha; Lisa (Kevin) Paul of Lincoln; Keith (Diane) Schumacher and Kevin (Lisa) Schumacher, all of Petersburg; eight grandchildren: Jordan and Miranda Paul; Courtney, Sydney and Seth Schumacher; Taylor, Kyle and Kaitey Schumacher; three sisters: JoAnn (Don) Slater of Omaha; Diane Bailey (Bill) of Neligh; Doris “Pip”(Darrell) White of Nancy, KY; brothers-in-law: Henry (Marilyn) Ketteler; Jim (Rosemary) Ketteler of Atkinson and Morrie Henn of Petersburg; sisters-in-law: Helen (Larry) Borer of Elgin; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Pat in 2009; three siblings Marlene, Gary and Mary Schumacher; sister-in-law Mary “Dolly” Henn and brother-in-law David Knust.
