William C. “Bill” Evans, 69 of Elgin, NE passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society-Albion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of arrangements.

William Charles Evans, only child of Garness and Hedwig (Preusser) Evans, was born July 12, 1946 at Norfolk, NE. After his father’s death in 1961, Bill and his mother moved to Omaha, NE where he was raised with the help of his aunt and uncle, Mae and Harve Heaston. He attended high school at Creighton Prep, graduating in 1964. He went on to college at Creighton University earning a business degree in 1969, and began working for Postal Finance in Norfolk, NE.
On April 24, 1971, Bill married Patricia Ann Henn at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville, NE. To this union six children were born: Amy, Andrew, Mathew, Robert, Brian, and James. The couple moved to Lincoln, Omaha, Sioux City and back to Omaha where Bill continued his career with Postal Finance until moving to Elgin, NE in 1981. Bill purchased Ray’s Service from Ray Dinslage, operating it as Bill’s Service until suffering a heart attack in 1994. He sold the business and worked at various jobs as his health would allow, helping take care of his mother Hallie who passed away in 1999.
Bill also served as the Mayor of Elgin from 1985-2010.
In more recent years, he spent time helping his son Robbie in his business by running for parts.
Bill enjoyed spending time at the Green Valley Ranch west of Elgin and loved watching tornados and storms. He was a member of St. Boniface Church in Elgin and the Elgin Young Men’s Club, spending many weekends taking his sons to haul, set up, and tear down the group’s large stage for various communities’ events. He also enjoyed 5:00 Social Hour, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his six children: Amy (Lynn) Selting of Elgin, NE; Andy (Ashley) Evans and Matt (PJ) Evans, both of Norfolk, NE; Robbie Evans, Brian (Abby) Evans, Jay (Kristen) Evans, all of Elgin, NE; and 16 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Allyson and Michael Selting; Paula, Ashley, Hunter, Sierra, Kayden and Rylee Evans; Ashton, Gage and Madyson Evans; Libby and Victoria Evans; Harper and Jackson Evans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his aunt and uncle, Mae and Harve Heaston.
