Wolfpack Netters Win Sub-District Title Game

ELGIN — West Holt had no chance.
The goal all season for Elgin Public-Pope John has been to put themselves in a position to qualify for the Class C2 State Volleyball Tournament. They did just that Tuesday night, defeating the Huskies 25-14, 25-17 and 25-13 in the C2-10 Sub-District Final played at O’Neill High School.
The Wolfpack played a near flawless match against West Holt, never allowing the Huskies a chance to get in the match. The Wolfpack dominated the net on both offense and defense, according to statistics from the match.
Junior Liz Selting led the way with a team-high 14 kills. As a team, the Wolfpack were 82 of 94 in attacks with 36 kills. Other Wolfpack players with kills were Jenna Parks eight, Terri Seier six, Paige Meis five, Amy Nelson two and Jill Schindler one. West Holt had two players with six kills apiece.
EPPJ made 58 of 64 serves in the match with three ace serves, one each from Nelson, Selting and Jordan Mescher.
Nelson led the way in blocking with three solos, Selting, Seier and Schindler each had one.
A key statistic in the match was digs and the Wolfpack had just 17 errors. West Holt had 32 errors. Parks led EPPJ with eight, Selting had seven followed by Nelson, Mescher and Nicole Beckman all with six.
EPPJ recorded 24 set assists in the match, led by Parks with 13, Baylee Wemhoff had seven, Meis and Schindler each with two.
Mescher led the Wolfpack in serve receive with 14, Selting was next with seven.
The victory boosted the Wolfpack’s record to 25-6 heading into the C2-5 District final against Crofton to be played Thursday night at Norfolk Catholic High School. The match begins at 7 p.m.
