School District #18 in Elgin will seek passage of a tax levy dropping nearly 12 cents from what it was one year ago.
A public hearing on the proposed school budget and tax levy will be held on Wednesday evening, Sept. 9, just prior to the start of the regular meeting. The hearing on the proposed budget will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a hearing on the proposed tax levy at 7:15 p.m.
During the regular meeting, to follow at 7:30 p.m., the school board is expected to approve the proposed budget and levy.

Superintendent Dan Polk said Monday the school district is in a unique position. Polk said the valuation increased 16 percent from one year ago.

Where does the proposed tax levy for District #18 rank with other school district tax levies across the state? Polk said Monday figures provided to him from the Nebraska Department of Education show District #18 being in the top three for lowest levies across the state.
The hearings, like the regular board meeting, are open to the public.
