Joan Van Ostrand, 82 of Orchard, NE, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 2, 2015, at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ewing, NE, with Rev. James Kramper officiating.
Burial followed in the Orchard Hill Cemetery. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Joan Philamena Van Ostrand, daughter of Michael Alfred and Helen Marie (Winnepenninkx) Beelart, was born August 20, 1932 at Elgin.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin and attended St. Boniface School. After receiving her education, she worked with her father on the family farm, and worked at a café in Clearwater, NE where she met her future husband.
On June 12, 1957, Joan married Bruce Elmer Van Ostrand at the St. Boniface Rectory. They made their home in Ewing, before living in Neligh and Elgin. In 1968 they moved to Orchard, where Joan was a homemaker, raising their five children: Doris, Helen, Bruce, Dwight and David.
Joan was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and enjoyed needlework and raising flowers.
She is survived by her children: Doris (Marty) Pavlakovich of Bellevue, NE; Helen (Robert) Huwaldt of Orchard, NE; Bruce J. Van Ostrand of Beatrice, NE; Dwight (Shari) Van Ostrand of Orchard, NE; David Van Ostrand of Wausa, NE; a brother Joe Beelart of St. Paul, Oregon; three sisters: Francis, Martha and Mary Delores Beelart, all of Elgin, NE; five grandchildren: Matthew Pavlakovich of Bellevue, NE; John Huwaldt, Joel, Brandi and Shane Van Ostrand, all of Orchard, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bruce in 2003; two sisters: Rose Marie Sabin and Mary Rita Beelart; and four brothers: Leo, Alfred, Leonard and Albert Beelart.
