School Board Reviews August Dates

epseaglesAttention students of Elgin Public Schools! The start of the 2015-2016 school year is less than one month away.
Yes, that’s true. Hard to believe, but summer recess is fading fast.
On Monday night, the District #18 Board of Education was brought up to date on a number of items related to the start of the school year.
Principal Greg Wemhoff said the first day of school for students will be on Friday, Aug. 14. On that day, classes will be dismissed at 1 p.m.
That was just one of a number of “calendar” items Wemhoff shared. August is busy with the following dates:
• Thursday night, August 6 — A program will be held at the school for parents and students to review the student handbook
• Monday, August 10 — The first day of football practice for the Wolfpack.
• Thursday, August 13 — An elementary open house will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Public hearings
Prior to the start of the regular meeting, three 10-minute public hearings were held on school policies, led by Superintendent Dan Polk.
The first focused on student fees policy. “It’s a required policy,” Polk said, “but we don’t have many student fees … We don’t charge for athletic participation.”
