Meis Wins Two Events At St. Mary’s Invite

O’NEILL — The Wolfpack posted three top efforts Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Invitational.
Having competed on the same track just one week ago, the Wolfpack track team improved their times and distances.
Leading the way was Ryan Pelster. A junior, Pelster won the 1600 meter run (4:57.70) and the 3200 meter run (10:42.49) as he continues to be one of the better long-distance runners in this part of the state.
He wasn’t the only Wolfpack runner to claim gold. Junior Austin Meis won the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.42 seconds, followed close behind by teammate Andrew Fangman who took second at 25.25 seconds. Earlier, Meis finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.95 seconds.
Also enjoying success were two boys relay teams, each finishing second. The 400 meter relay team of Dylan Behnk, Kyle Kallhoff, Fangman and Meis posted a time of 48.46 seconds. The 1600 meter relay team of Meis, Behnk, Fangman and Pelster finished with a time of 3:55.51, less than two seconds behind CWC who won the event with a time of 3:53.88.
On the girls side, senior Taylor Schumacher finished second in two events — 800 meter run (2:38.11) and the pole vault (7’6”).
Liz Selting placed second in the triple jump with a best leap of 30’7 1/2”. Junior Jill Schindler finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.17 seconds.
Chambers/Wheeler Central won the boys team title with 157 points followed by Boyd County 107, Riverside 86, EPPJ 81, Niobrara-Verdigre 45, St. Mary’s 31, Ewing 7, N-VB 2, Santee 0.
St. Mary’s claimed the girls team title with 155.6 points followed by Riverside 126.3, EPPJ 65, Boyd County 63, Ewing 53, CWC 50, Niobrara-Verdigre 13, Santee 0, N-V B 0.
