Florian W. Luettel, 89, of Albion, NE, died Friday, February 6, 2015 at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating.  Burial followed at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Albion, NE with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion. Florian William Luettel, son of Ben and Mary (Hoefer) Luettel, was born October 4, 1925 on a farm near Raeville, NE. He was baptized at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville, was confirmed at St. John’s Church in Petersburg, attended Boone County School District #16 and graduated from the 8th grade at St. John’s Catholic School in Petersburg, NE.
Following his graduation, he farmed with his father, later going to work for Zwingman’s as a farm hand east of Petersburg for a year before entering the United States Army on February 15, 1945. During his time in the Army, Florian served in the Japan and Philippines areas as a cook, and was honorably discharged on his 21st birthday.
On September 14, 1948, Florian was united in marriage to Clarice Leibel at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE. Following their marriage they lived near Petersburg before moving east of Albion in the 1950’s. Florian worked as a farmer and raised livestock, did various small jobs, and delivered rural mail. Retiring in 2002, Florian moved into town with his wife and later entered the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in February of 2014.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, the Knights of Columbus Council 1739, American Legion Post #162 of Albion, and the Albion Rural Fire Board. Florian enjoyed teasing and will be remembered by his family and friends for always giving everybody a bad time.
Florian is survived by his wife of 66 years: Clarice of Albion; two brothers: Flavian (Pat) Luettel of Albion, and Bernard Luettel of Omaha; sister: Mary (Henry) Starman of Albion; sister-in-law: Florence Luettel of Albion; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.\He was preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings: Clem (Frances) Luettel, Lawrence Luettel, Greg (Phil) Luettel, LaVern Luettel, Alvin (Mildred) Luettel, Martha Luettel, Emma (Joe) Koch, Marcella (George) Stokes, Stella (Harold) Stokes; sister-in-laws: Darlene Luettel and Jean Luettel.
