EPPJ Tops Plainview, Falls To Riverside

PLAINVIEW — Tied at 25-all entering the second half, the Wolfpack gave the Pirates a lesson in how to put the ball in the basket. Elgin Public-Pope John collected their second victory of the season, defeating the Pirates 63 to 38.
One might wonder how a game tied at halftime could become so one-sided? The answer would be scorers getting hot and the Pirates going cold from the field.
The Wolfpack outscored Plainview 38 to 13 in the second half to claim the victory.
Jack Borer led the way for the Wolfpack, connecting on three treys and finishing with 15 points. Zach Eischeid added 10 points in his best effort of the season. They were the only two Wolfpack players to score in double figures.
The Wolfpack made 24 of 50 field goal attempts and converted on 11 of 18 free throws.
Another key statistic in the game was rebounds as the Wolfpack pulled down 35. Eischeid, Scott Moser and Austin Meis led the way with seven rebounds apiece.
Saturday action
Riverside jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back in handing the Wolfpack a 67 to 51 loss Saturday night at Cedar Rapids.
After the first quarter, EPPJ (2-2) played Riverside tough, nearly matching them basket for basket over the final three quarters. Riverside was only able to outscore the Wolfpack 48 to 41 during that time span.
