Wolfpack Girls Defeat Cougars in Season Opener

ELGIN — Trailing by nine points nearly midway through the first quarter, Wolfpack Coach Randy Eisenhauer called a timeout to settle his team down. The strategy worked as the Wolfpack rallied to blow out Niobrara-Verdigre 67 to 42 Friday night.
The Wolfpack trailed 10 to 1 at the 5:41 mark of the first quarter when Eisenhauer gathered his team during the timeout. When they returned to the floor they were a different team as they outscored the Cougars 66 to 32 the rest of the way to earn their first victory of the season.
“I think a lot of it was the nerves, first game jitters,” Eisenhauer said about the team’s slow start.
“We kinda switched up the defense, we went to a man-defense following that time out.  The girls got a little more energized. They kinda got into the game — took a ‘deep breath’ and really pushed it.”
