EWING — In a matchup of NVC rivals, the Wolfpack girls team came up two points short Friday night, falling to Ewing by the score of 39 to 37.
Down by six points with under two minutes left in the game, the Wolfpack charged back to make the game a nail-biter in the end.
Trailing 38 to 32, the Wolfpack made their move when Jenna Parks scored. Then the Wolfpack got a steal on the in-bounds pass and freshman Baylee Wemhoff scored her only field goal of the game to pull EPPJ to within two points, 38 to 36 with 44 seconds left in the game.
Ewing’s Riley Funk made one of two free throws to boost the Tigers’ lead up to 39 to 36 with 20 seconds left in the game.
Parks was fouled underneath the basket with 12 seconds left in the game. She made one of two free throws to pull to within two, 39 to 37.
Forced to foul, the Wolfpack put Linzie Van Horn on the line. The Tiger sophomore missed both free throws, giving the Wolfpack one last chance to tie. The Wolfpack got the ball into the hands of senior Stephanie Bode who was fouled with three seconds left. Both free throws missed the mark, the second one deliberately with hopes of getting a rebound and a put-back before the buzzer sounded. In this case, luck wasn’t on the side of the Wolfpack as the buzzer sounded, giving the victory to the Lady Tigers.
