SPENCER — The Wolfpack varsity volleyball team earned their second victory of the season by defeating Boyd County Thursday night.
Behind 11 kills from freshman hitter Liz Selting, the Wolfpack defeated Boyd County 25-14, 25-21, 18-25 and 25-23.
The young Wolfpack netters accounted for 41 kills at the net in their best offensive showing of the young season. In addition to Selting, Jenna Parks and Madison Voborny each had eight kills and senior Corin Pelster produced six. The balanced attack kept Boyd County from stacking their defense to stop any one player.
Freshman Baylee Wemhoff had 15 set assists in the match to lead the Wolfpack. Parks had 11 as part of a double-double in the match.

Renegades Outlast Wolfpack 50 to 36

BARTLETT — Two questionable calls which went against the Wolfpack helped Chambers/Wheeler Central to a 50 to 36 victory Friday night.
An official’s ruling that a Wolfpack runner stepped out-of-bounds four yards short of the end zone cost the Wolfpack points in the first quarter. Then, a questionable fumble by the Wolfpack just before halftime, led to a Renegade touchdown which proved to be too much for the Wolfpack to overcome on this night.
Still, the Renegades made the plays to win the game. Quarterback Brenden Pelster and fullback Greg Olson did most of the damage for CWC as they repeatedly gashed the Wolfpack for positive yardage. Pelster and Olson combined for 234 yards rushing in the victory which boosted the Renegades’ record to 1-1.
The Wolfpack dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
The Renegades got on the scoreboard on their first possession of the game. Pelster capped a 31-yard drive with a one-yard run to notch the game’s first touchdown at the 8:23 mark.

Law Enforcement Cracks Missing Tools Case

September 19, 2013 by lmorgan · Comments Off

A Bellevue man has been taken into custody as law enforcement personnel try to sort out how military tools from a base in California ended up in a building located northwest of Elgin.
According to Antelope County Sheriff Bob Moore, Richard A. Hoke, 32, of Bellevue was arrested for stealing military property (tools) which were found in a building approximately one mile west and two miles north of Elgin.
Moore said law enforcement was notified by Lindsey Reel after she discovered the military items being stored in the building.
The value of the items in the building was estimated to be somewhere between $2,500 and $3,000.
“Lindsey did the right thing by contacting us,” Moore said last week. “She had nothing to do with the taking of the tools.”
The investigation was conducted by the sheriff’s office, the Nebraska State Patrol and the United States Marine Corps.
Prior to coming to Nebraska to work as a recruiter for the Marine Corps, Hoke was a Marine Corps helicopter pilot based in California. Moore said the items recovered were from the California base.
Hoke was arrested in Antelope County and then transported back to Omaha by Marine Corps personnel.
