Picnic Wednesday To Welcome ‘Newcomers’

August 30, 2013 by lmorgan · Comments Off

Many in Elgin have noticed the influx of new families into the community during the past months. As a way to formally ‘welcome’ these new residents, a ‘Community Picnic’ will be held Wednesday evening, Sept. 4, at Elgin City Park. Bethany Miller, one of the organizers of the upcoming event, said the idea for the event is a simple one. “We want to welcome all the new families to town. Everyone is invited.”
Hamburgers, hotdogs and chips will be provided. Longtime residents wishing to attend are asked to bring a side dish — a salad or a dessert.
“Bring yourself and bring a friend,” Miller said. While there should be ample seating, she suggested residents bring lawn chairs just in case.
The picnic is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the park. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Elgin United Methodist Church.
Persons with questions should contact Bethany at (402) 992-1532.

No First Day Jitters Here!

Students from all three schools in Elgin got back into the school “groove” last week.  Reese Stuhr, kindergartener at St. Boniface Elementary School, shows off her very own locker to mom and dad, Brian and Clarissa Stuhr of Petersburg. In addition to a new school year, students at St. Boniface find themselves in a new school building, sharing the hallways and more with students at Pope John XXIII Central Catholic.  Students at Elgin Public Schools are enjoying the new air conditioning that was installed over the summer in their buildings plus the new “Eagle’s Nest”, a kick-back-and-relax area just to the east of the main building. The Eagle’s Nest was made possible with the removal of the old grey metal building. E-R photo
