A man who has supported the Elgin community and many of its’ activities for countless years, Dr. Dale B. Jillson, will be honored Friday by the Bank of Elgin.
Dr. Jillson recently announced his retirement from the Board of Directors for the Bank of Elgin.
He has served as a director at the bank dating back to 1974.
According to Bank President David Sullivan, Jillson has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of the Bank of Elgin during those years.
In honor of Dr. Jillson’s past service, the community is invited to an open house to be held in conjunction with the annual customer appreciation BBQ to be held at the KC Hall on Friday, Sept. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The public is encouraged to attend the Customer appreciation BBQ and open house.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, 22 Elgin FFA members headed out to the sandhills of Holt county to compete in the area district range judging contest.
Out of the 22 members competing 15 came home with an individual ribbon as they placed in the top 1/4 of their division (Senior or Junior) while others earned a ribbon from a team placing. Overall it was a very good day for our judgers! Our top placer of the day was Justine Meis who was second overall in the senior division.

If you love tailgating and Husker football, then Elgin is the place to be Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Elgin Ko-ed Group (EKG) is hosting a tailgate party beginning Saturday afternoon and concluding late that night, hopefully after a Husker victory over the University of Wyoming. Activities will get underway at 2 p.m. at 100 Pine Street on the vacant lot west of City Hall (in case of bad weather the alternate location would be Beckman Lumber).
Organizer Jessie Reestman said there will be a number of younger kids’ games for them to enjoy including a ‘Bounce House.’ Roasted hog will be served up to all who are hungry, and also a beer garden for the thirsty. Persons wishing to watch the game will be able to do so on a 16’ big screen. She encouraged everyone to bring lawn chairs.
More than 300 tickets have been sold thus far. Tickets for the event are $10 per person (which includes a meal). Children five and under eat free. Tickets can be purchased at Dean’s Market and at the Bank of Elgin or can be purchased at the gate. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Elgin Q125 celebration slated for summer 2014.
See ya there and remember, WEAR RED!
