EPPJ Golfers Finish Eighth at Scotus Invite

COLUMBUS — Competing against much bigger schools, Elgin Public Pope John fared well at the Columbus Scotus Invite held Wednesday, April 20.

The Wolfpack finished eighth out of 19 teams competing at Quail Run Golf Course.

Conditions were partly sunny, cool and breezy when golfers began the 18-hole event.

Hastings St. Cecilia won the team title for the third time out of the last four years, shooting a 335.

Wolfpack Girls Finish Third at St. Mary’s Invite

O’NEILL — The Wolfpack girls track team turned in a solid performance Wednesday, April 20, finishing third at the St. Mary’s Invitational track and field meet.

Chambers/Wheeler Central (CWC) won the girls team title with 153 points, followed by St. Mary’s with 116. The Wolfpack was third with 83 points followed by West Boyd and Niobrara-Verdigre 57 each, Cody-Kilgore 34, Santee 13, NV JV 8, Lynch 3 and Ewing 0.

Leading the Wolfpack were Madison Voborny who won the 300 meter hurdles. Teammate Ashley Bode won the 3200 meter run. Bode then teamed up with Chelsi Mescher, Ivy Prater and Marin Heithoff to win the 3200 meter relay.

William Horin

Michelle and Matthew Horin of Destin, Fl are proud to announce the birth of their son, William Edward Garryn Horin. He was born on November 29, 2010. He weighed seven po-unds and three ounces. Grandparents are Jolene (Heithoff) and the late Gary Wildman of Mary Esther, FL and Megan Horin of Ashville, NC. Great-grandparents are the late Don and Helen Heithoff of Elgin, NE and Jenny (McCain) and the late Jerry Wildman of Burwell, NE.

Sawyer David Veik

Adam and Heather Veik of Tilden are the parents of a son born April 2, 2011.

The baby, named Sawyer David, weighed eight pounds. He was welcomed home by a brother, Landyn.

Grandparents are Pat and Cheryl Veik of Elgin, Shirley Lichtenberg of Neligh and the late Stan Lichtenberg.

Great grandparents include Marilyn and David Schrad of Petersburg, Eva Kallhoff of Elgin and Marvin Lichtenberg of Neligh.

Scholarship Drive Surpasses $1,600

A supporter of education in the Elgin community for many years, students again this year will benefit from the generosity of the late Gayla Fredrickson.

The former superintendent of Elgin Public Schools, who passed away in July 2009, a large donation has been made to the Elgin Area Community Foundation’s annual scholarship drive in her memory.

Additional donations last week were received from Gene and Mary Jane Boes, Rita Wagner, Tony & Nicole Levander, Mike & Judy Kerkman, and from Jim Fredrickson.

The scholarship fund drive now stands at $1,605.
