NORTH PLATTE — The Elgin Public-Pope John golf team finished eighth in the team standings at the Class D State Golf Tournament.
Playing at The Rivers Edge Golf Course, Wolfpack golfers finished with a team score of 704. Winning the tournament was North Platte St. Pat’s with a score of 658. Other team scores were Franklin 659, Ewing 662, Alma 672, Mullen 675, Potter-Dix 697, Heartland Lutheran 698, EPPJ 704, West Point CC 714, Pender 717, Neligh-Oakdale 722, Medicine Valley 729, Loup City 737, Friend 753 and Loomis 814.
Individually, Curtis Childers earned a state medal as he and two other golfers tied for sixth place, each shooting 157. Medalist was Salvador Molina Toledo of Heartland Lutheran who finished with a two-day score of 147. Ewing had two golfers who finished in the top 15, Chase Funk tied for 11th with a score of 159, teammate Philip Thramer was 13th with a score of 160. Scott Kester of Neligh-Oakdale finished 15th with a score of 163.
Other Wolfpack scores were Evan Parks 174, Zach Baker 181, Andrew Heithoff 192 and Brenden Henn 199.
Jay Andrew Hestekind was born Monday, May 3, 2010, at 4:48 a.m. at the Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Jay weighed one pound, 7.3 ounces at birth and was 11 3/8 inches long at birth.
Parents are Bryan and Crystal Hestekind of Wayne, NE. A sibling is Keira Hestekind, 3.
Grandparents are Jerry & Judy Hestekind of Elgin, and the late Mel and Cheri Mueller.
Great grandparets include Luile Hayford.
New books are Deliver us From Evil by David Baldacci and Spoken From the Heart by Laura Bush.
Story time will begin at 10 am on June 7. It will be held each Monday and Wednesday morning for 6 weeks. Parents may drop off children or they are welcome to stay.
The Way Out West 4-H Club will be doing most of the story times. They will last for approximately 45 minutes. Be sure to pick your children promptly.
Activity time for school age children will be on Thursday afternoon, June 10. We’ll decide then if that time works.

Dave and Laura Stoltz of Pierce, NE are the proud parents of a son, Tanner David, born May 20, 2010 at Faith Regional Health Center in Norfolk. Tanner weighed 8 lbs, 10 oz. and was 21 inches long.
Grandparents are Ursilla Stoltz and the late Philip Stoltz of Elgin and Laura Frasher of Norfolk.
He is welcomed home by three siblings: Rylee, Taylor and Reed.
Kathryn Score of Elgin (Elgin High School 2006) was inducted to Chadron State College’s chapter of the Cardinal Key Honor Society this spring.
Score, a senior studying human biology, is one of 13 students who were inducted to the group, which emphasizes community service.
Cardinal Key’s purpose is to recognize achievement in scholarship, extracurricular activities and to advance the personal development of women at Chadron State. Women with a grade-point average of 3.25 or above and who will have junior status by the fall were eligible to apply for a limited number of memberships with the national organization of Cardinal Key.
