Cyclones Edge Wolfpack Boys 58 to 52

February 18, 2010 by lmorgan · Comments Off

ELGIN — Having lost to the Cyclones at the NVC East Tournament, the Wolfpack were hoping to make amends Thursday night against Clearwater-Orchard. Well into the second half it looked like that just might happen.

Then Cyclones’ Logan Hoffman and Cody Schacht took over in the fourth quarter to give the Cyclones a 58 to 52 victory.

The Cyclones scored the last four points of the first quarter to take a 13 to 8 lead, Dillon Finch converted an old-fashioned three-point play and Ethan Thiele added a free throw.

The Wolfpack rallied to tie the score at 14-all on a deuce by J.J. Reestman.

The teams then traded baskets before another basket by Reestman at the 1:21 mark before halftime gave the Wolfpack a 24 to 22 lead. The Cyclones then hit three of four free throws in the last minute to take a 25 to 24 lead at halftime.

EPPJ Girls Cap Regular Season with Victory over Cyclones

February 18, 2010 by lmorgan · Comments Off

ELGIN — In their final tune-up before sub-districts, the Elgin Public-Pope John Wolfpack girls showed they will be a force to contend with in the postseason.

On Parents’ Night at St. Boniface Gymnasium, the Wolfpack defeated the Cyclones 51 to 31.

The rout started early and didn’t stop, much to the joy of Wolfpack fans in the stands. Treys by Jenna Beckman and Kasi Stoltz and a pair of baskets from Jessica Heithoff helped stake the Wolfpack to an 11 to 4 lead after one quarter.

The Cyclones pulled to within three on a basket by Jamie Counch. EPPJ then went on a 12 to two run. Jamie Bode had three points in the run and Michelle Bauer contributed her first points since suffering a foot injury against Stuart last month.

Leading by 12 to start the second half, the lead continued to grow as Stoltz hit two treys and Beckman added one to help the team build a 17-point lead at the end of the quarter.

Stoltz had seven of the Wolfpack’s first 10 points in the fourth quarter as EPPJ doubled the score on the Cyclones. Her deuce at the 5:54 mark made the score 48 to 23.
