Members of the Elgin Chapter of Future Farmers of America will be offering their services to the highest bidder at the annual FFA Labor Auction.
The event will be held following the Elgin High/Pope John Central Catholic football game Friday night, Oct. 2. The auction will take place at the football field. According to Patrick Beres, Elgin FFA Chapter Advisor, 50 members of the Elgin FFA will be auctioned off after the game. Each FFA member will give eight hours of their time to work for the highest bidder.
Persons here in Elgin have just 10 days to prepare for the Fall Cleanup Day sponsored by the Elgin Chamber of Commerce/Community Club.
The event will be held Saturday, October 10.
On that day, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and lasting till noon, volunteers will pick up items placed along the curb to be hauled away.
Items must be placed along the curb side by 8:30 a.m. to guarantee pickup.
Also, for persons who have items they can’t haul to the curb side, volunteers will make arrangements to pick those items up. Arrangements can be made by contacting the Elgin Review office at 843-5500 before 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9.
Elgin Chamber of Commerce members and their employees are invited to attend an October ‘After 5’ social.
The event will be held on Thursday, October 8 at the office of Elgin Insurance Services. The business, along with Total Image Salon, are the hosts for the event which is scheduled to to run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
CLEARWATER — This far into the season, one thing is certain — The Elgin Eagles volleyball team can match up well against any opponent. Unfortunately for fans of the orange & black, that doesn’t always translate into victories.
Playing four matches last week, the Eagles posted just one victory.
Competing at Clearwater Tuesday night, Elgin defeated Wheeler Central 25-19, 10-25 and 25-21 for the team’s third victory of the season.
ELGIN — Within four points early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles let Spalding/Spalding Academy score two late touchdowns as the Knights prevailed 44 to 26.
EWING — With three starters out before the start of the game, Pope John Central Catholic wasn’t expected to give unbeaten Ewing much of a game. Fortunately, no one told any of the blue-clad warriors that as the Eagles put up a strong fight well into the second half before the Tigers pulled away for a 44 to 20 victory.
“Lonesome Walker” will be the featured band performing Saturday night at the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department’s Annual Dance. The event, to be held October 3, will be at the KC Hall from 8 p.m. to midnight.The band plays real rock ‘n roll music which people are sure to enjoy whether they are seated visiting with friends or on the dance floor.
A $7 donation at the door will be asked of each person who attends.
Firemen will be serving BBQ sandwiches in appreciation of the community’s support.
