CLEARWATER — This far into the season, one thing is certain — The Elgin Eagles volleyball team can match up well against any opponent. Unfortunately for fans of the orange & black, that doesn’t always translate into victories.

Playing four matches last week, the Eagles posted just one victory.

Competing at Clearwater Tuesday night, Elgin defeated Wheeler Central 25-19, 10-25 and 25-21 for the team’s third victory of the season.

ELGIN — Within four points early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles let Spalding/Spalding Academy score two late touchdowns as the Knights prevailed 44 to 26.

EWING — With three starters out before the start of the game, Pope John Central Catholic wasn’t expected to give unbeaten Ewing much of a game. Fortunately, no one told any of the blue-clad warriors that as the Eagles put up a strong fight well into the second half before the Tigers pulled away for a 44 to 20 victory.
