Jared Bombeck, son of Bruce and Julie Bombeck of Grand Island has been chosen as a representative to Cornhusker Boys State to be held May 31 through June 6 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
His sponsor is the Knights of Columbus.
The Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council is hosting one more recycling event, but this time to include both computers and TVs. It will be Wednesday, June 10th in Randolph at the parking lot across the street north from the City Auditorium. The collection will be from 3 – 6 p.m. There is small fee for computer monitors and TVs, but all keyboards, mice, speakers, scanners, fax machines, DVDs, VCRs, CPUs, and printers are free.
The statewide smoking ban takes effect on June 1, and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and local health departments are working with businesses to help them comply with Nebraska’s new smoke-free law.
DHHS has developed a website with information to help businesses. The site is available at www.smokefree.ne.gov, and contains resources such as questions and answers, informational brochures and the finalized regulations.
A dispute between former deputies of the Antelope County Sheriff’s Department against Sheriff Darrell Hamilton and Antelope County is now over.
During a special meeting held Tuesday, May 19, the Antelope County Board of Supervisors approved a settlement of nearly $7,000 for former deputy Jeff Treu and $4,400 for former deputy Randy Lieswald.
The amounts were for back wages determined as part of the settlement agreement.
The Committee for the Continuation of Pope John is sponsoring Elvis impersonator, Joseph Hall.
Hall will be performing in the St. Boniface Gym in Elgin on Sunday, June 14th.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. Minors will not be admitted to the performance.
