Dr. Fred Ohles, President of Nebraska Wesleyan University, awarded degrees to approximately 500 graduate students during Nebraska Wesleyan University’s 120th annual commencement exercises held on Saturday, May 16.
The class of 2009 at St. Boniface, has made their way down the isle, received their diplomas and is now looking forward to junior high at Pope John. A beautiful Mass was celebrated by Father Andrews and hosted by the sixth grade class and their teacher, Mrs. Vaisvilas. After Mass there were lots of smiles, congratulations and all went their separate ways to celebrate. Helen Amelia Schmitt, 77, died Sunday, May 24, 2009 in her home. Helen was born July 9, 1931 in Elgin, NE to John & Elizabeth (Gregor) Werning.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in lieu of flowers.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Norway, Iowa, with Father Jack McClure C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s & St. Paul’s Cemetery, Watkins, Iowa.
Visitation will be Wednesday (today), 4-8 PM, at St. Michael’s Parish Center, with a rosary at 7 p.m. and vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Arrangements are with Brosh Funeral Service, Norway, Iowa.
The Elkhorn River Parish will be having their parish-wide 5th Sunday Service at the Faith United Methodist Church 304 S. Madison, Tilden, NE. The service will begin at 10 a.m. and will include a Service of Farewell for Pastor Janice Farrell, CLM. Following the worship time will be a carry-in dinner at the church.
All are welcome to attend this service and dinner.
There will not be worship services at the Elgin United Methodist Church, Peace United Church of Christ in Tilden, or Meadow Grove United Methodist Church that morning.
Regular schedule of services for the parish will resume on June 7.
